TOP TEN INTERVIEWING TIPS

  1. Arrive early. This will ensure ample time to find your interview location and gives you an opportunity to review your resume before interviewing.
  2. Dress professionally. If you have any doubts about your dress, err on the conservative side. Always feel free to call your recruiter if you need any clarification.
  3. Pay attention to details on your resume. Spell check doesn’t always catch the errors. Look for typos and spacing issues.
  4. Know your resume. Know your dates of employment, the names and titles of past supervisors and highlight any awards or promotions you received. Remember you are your own cheerleader - highlight your achievements!
  5. Research the company you will interview with. Prepare at least 3 questions for your interviewer. The interviewer wants to know that you are engaged in the conversation and genuinely interested in the opportunity. This is also your opportunity to find out if the company and position is right for you!
  6. Speak kindly of past employers. It is unprofessional to speak ill of previous supervisors or employers in the interview. What type of message does this send to a future employer?
  7. Don’t be the first to bring up salary. Often in a first interview, salary is never discussed. If salary is discussed, let the interviewer lead the conversation. Say your salary is negotiable.
  8. Make eye contact with your interviewer and listen as much as you speak.
  9. Be honest, don’t lie about reasons you left your previous employer or try to cover up your weaknesses.
  10. Send a Thank You letter to your interviewer. Thank him for his time and let him know you are interested and excited about the job opportunity.
