A new infographic from Socialcast reveals some global data about freelancing in the workforce.
Freelancing is comparable to working through a temporary staffing agency in that positions are typically not permanent. Temporary employment has become more popular in recent years because of technological advances making it possible to work from anywhere and at any time.
According to the media outlet, the top reason people gave for accepting freelancing gigs is the flexibility, followed by having creative control over their work. The average age of the freelancer is 32 years old.
The graphic revealed that South African freelancers work the most, accruing an average of 49 paid hours per week. However, 40 percent of all freelancers admitted that they have trouble getting paid wages from their employer.
Only 8 percent of freelancers said they want to return to full-time employment.
Many freelancing assignments allow people to work from the comfort of their home. According to the Telework Research Network, more than 2 percent of the entire U.S. workforce considers home to be their primary place of work.
